Hailing from São Paulo, Junior Karegato is a renowned Brazilian percussionist and drummer with over 20 years of professional music experience. From his early days in music, Junior has stood out for his versatility and ability to adapt rhythms and grooves across various styles while maintaining his roots and originality.

From 2004 to 2008, Junior studied at the prestigious Dr. Carlos de Campos Conservatory of Music in Tatuí, SP, where he specialized in percussion with a focus on Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and Jazz. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to accompany numerous renowned artists in Brazil, exploring genres such as Samba, Forró, Maracatu, and Choro, which have deepened his musical repertoire and understanding of Brazil’s rich sonic diversity.

As an educator, Junior worked from 2009 to 2015 with Projeto Guri, one of Brazil’s largest music education initiatives, where he significantly contributed to the training of young musicians and the promotion of music education in the country. His commitment to teaching and nurturing new talent highlights his passion for music and knowledge sharing.

In 2021, Junior expanded his career to the United States, settling in New Jersey with his family. Since his arrival, he has been invited to participate in the musical project “Rio UPHILL,” recording 16 original tracks that blend Brazilian rhythms with rock and rap. This project received the Richard Rodgers Award and was a finalist at the European Cinematography Awards, further solidifying Junior’s influence in the global music scene.

Junior has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, as part of the educational project Link Up, which engages public school children in interactive concerts. He has also played at Dizzy’s Club, Jazz Forum Arts, and the Jersey City Jazz Festival 2024.

Currently, Junior is in the studio working on his new album titled “Eclectic,” set for release in late 2024. He is also collaborating with renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista, conducting workshops for public school students in New Jersey, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
